Why write Historical Romance? Historical Romance (HR) was all the rage when I started reading novels as a teen. Historical Romance is the penultimate escapist fantasy. These books swept you away in sagas of far away lands featuring the lives of people, their adventures to majestic places. Present day HR is very different from the books is the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Gone are the stories of damsels in distress being rescued by the hero. Now have women who embody the self agency of today’s woman only placed in a setting of a far gone era. Is this historically inaccurate? Maybe, maybe not but that’s not the point. The writer’s of today are not writing for our grandmothers we are writing for today’s woman. That is why today’s Historical Romance is a breath of fresh air.
